I have been "warned"

Thu Jul 12, 2007 at 06:16:05 AM PDT

I can't post here anymore because my potential run for Congress
is not on the Democratic ticket.

I have been deeply grateful for all of your support over the years.
Your love and kindness helped me through lots of sleepless nights
at Camp Casey '05.

If Speaker Pelosi does her constitutionally mandated duty and I don't run,
then I can come back and post.

I know a lot of you are hostile towards my candidacy. Please
understand that I am doing it for your children and grandchildren
(and my surviving ones.)

Love always,
Cindy

Cindy for Congress

Mon Jul 09, 2007 at 06:26:23 AM PDT

Well, the cat got out of the bag early as they so often will do. I was going to announce on July 10th (my 50th birthday) before our Journey for Humanity that I would run against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca) if she didn’t put impeachment back on the table before our tour reached DC on July 23rd. Impeachment was never hers to take off the table as it is a Constitutional remedy for BushCo, not an optional smorgasbord choice. However, the story was leaked to the AP and we couldn’t keep the big announcement under wrap

Summer of Love '07: On a Journey for Humanity

Thu Jul 05, 2007 at 11:07:44 AM PDT

The other day I came out of my short retirement due to
yet another Bush flagrant abuse of power. We decided
that we would walk from Atlanta to DC to gather a
people’s movement for humanity. The longer BushCo are
in office the less chance we have of recovering the
heart and soul of our nation, saving our soldiers and
the people of Iraq and Afghanistan, and saving the
planet from corporate and individual waste and
pollution. Impeachment, removal from office, and in a
perfect world: incarceration for the criminals against
humanity, are urgent and necessary steps that need to
be taken today.

Call Out the Instigator: Revised

Tue Jul 03, 2007 at 11:01:58 AM PDT

note: since I wrote this, the Rev's hearing has been postponed for a month, so we will be starting our walk from Crawford (Camp Casey) on July 10th
We are working on the route and logistics and will have those details out on Friday, the 6th.
We will be walking 8 hours a day, then driving to the next stop...in case people are wondering how we will get to DC on the 23rd.

Another head hangs lowly,
Child is slowly taken.
And the violence caused such silence,
Who are we mistaken?

But you see, it's not me, it's not my family.
In your head, in your head they are fighting,
With their tanks and their bombs,
And their bombs and their guns.
In your head, in your head, they are crying...

To everything there is a season.
A time for war, a time for peace.

I wish I could say I thought of something profound as
I saw the president and his wife’s picture on that
billboard on Hwy 317 in my rear view mirror on my way
out of Crawford today. I will be back for the final
weekend farewell to Camp Casey on July 6th, but I
won’t be back as the owner of property there, or as a
leader of the American peace movement.

"Good Riddance Attention Whore"

Mon May 28, 2007 at 09:57:01 AM PDT

I have endured a lot of smear and hatred since Casey was killed and especially since I became the so-called "Face" of the American anti-war movement. Especially since I renounced any tie I have remaining with the Democratic Party, I have been further trashed on such "liberal blogs" as the Democratic Underground. Being called an "attention whore" and being told "good riddance" are some of the more milder rebukes.

Dear Democratic Congress

Dear Democratic Congress,

Hello, my name is Cindy Sheehan and my son Casey Sheehan was killed on April 04, 2004 in Sadr City , Baghdad , Iraq . He was killed when the Republicans still were in control of Congress. Naively, I set off on my tireless campaign calling on Congress to rescind George’s authority to wage his war of terror while asking him "for what noble cause" did Casey and thousands of other have to die. Now, with Democrats in control of Congress, I have lost my optimistic naiveté and have become cynically pessimistic as I see you all caving into as one Daily Kos poster called: "Mr. 28%"

On the very early Saturday morning, eight days before Casey was killed in Baghdad , I received a phone call from him. He was still in Kuwait . He talked about the heat; about heading to Baghdad the following week; he was on his way to mass; then he told me about stopping in Shannon Airport, Ireland on the First Cav’s way to Kuwait .

Where have all the Giants gone?

We have an old saying in my adopted state of Texas and you may have it in your own state too: "Those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it." America is not unique for perpetuating a history that was founded on genocide and where violence is constantly relied upon for problem solving, but this is our country and how can we finally learn the lessons of war and corrupt regimes?

When we left Lafayette Park yesterday there were 3396 Americans dead in Iraq. When we got to the Capitol about 45 minutes later, the count was up to 3398 and when we got out of jail 8 hours later, 3401 were gone.

Three-hundred amazing Americans joined us yesterday in The Mother of a March which was sponsored by The Camp Casey Peace Institute and supported and co-sponsored by many other peace groups.

Get Off It Bill O'Reilly, Part II

Sun May 06, 2007 at 07:47:00 AM PDT

We have had tremendous response to the "Get Off It Bill O"Reilly" campaign.

The Camp Casey Peace Institute is putting together a website as we speak with more info and O'Reilly's sponsors.

There are a few corrections in my previous diary called: Get Off It Bill O'Reilly.

Where I wrote "conscious" twice, those two errors have been changed to "conscience."

The "Harris" Poll I quoted, was actually an NBC/NYTimes Poll where the number was 24%. I got my polls mixed up. The Harris poll was an overall rating for Republicans in Congress. That has been changed in my diary, too.

Kent State 37 Years Later

Sat May 05, 2007 at 10:09:21 AM PDT

This is the keynote address Cindy gave on May 04, 2007, at the commemoration of the Kent State Massacre.

First of ail, I would just like to say that I am not only in favor of impeaching George Bush and Dick Cheney, but of trying them for war crimes and locking them both up in Guantanamo for the rest of their lives! I also agree with Tom (Hayden) that an "anti-war" movement is basically a self-destructive movement, because when our objectives are achieved, the movement is over. That is why we must call ourselves a "peace" movement so our movement will never end. There will always be a need for people who commit their lives to peace as strenuously as they commit their lives to the anti-war movement.

I can’t begin to tell you how honored I am to have been invited here to speak on this historic occasion with the other speakers who have also felt the sting of war and the pain of loss and lingering regrets. I am indescribably moved to be adopted into the Kent State family and invite you all down to Camp Casey in Crawford this August to join our family!

Get off it Bill O'Reilly by Cindy Sheehan

Fri May 04, 2007 at 06:35:59 AM PDT

A recent NBC/NYTimes Poll indicated that only 24% of Americans support George’s war of terror. I suspect that the less than one-fourth of our country who are still in favor of the hopeless mess BushCo has tragically involved the USA in get all of their "news" from Fox News.

I have mostly kept silent about Fox and their role as co-conspirators with the Bush Regime because I believe that the organization is too ridiculous to even waste ink or breath on. MSNBC, CNN and the networks are not much better, but they are not as openly pro-war or pro-BushCo as Fox. There are also fabulous internet sites (Media Matters and Sweet Jesus I Hate Bill O’Reilly) that do a great job of pointing out the errors and outright lies of Fox News. Robert Greenwald’s Outfoxed and Al Frankens’ Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them are great commentaries on the ‘fair and balanced" network. O’Reilly is regularly Keith Olbermann’s "Worst Person in the World" for his hateful and idiotic rhetoric.

Four Dead in Ohio

Wed May 02, 2007 at 06:18:04 AM PDT

May 4th, 2007 will be the 37th year since the Kent State, Ohio, massacre where four anti-war protesters were killed by Ohio National Guardsmen during a protest against Richard Nixon’s announced escalation in Vietnam .

On that day in 1970, anti-Vietnam war sentiment in the entire nation was high as hundreds of soldiers were coming home in flag-draped coffins every week and we were bombarded daily with images of burning villages and screaming Vietnamese children. The images were harsh, but what was even harsher was the Nixon regime escalating a war in a Johnsonian way when he had promised that he would end the quagmire in Vietnam if elected.
